Dan scrambled to get onto the counter-top, contorting his little limbs across drawers and knobs. With a triumphant grin he finally plopped himself onto the granite and aimed towards the cookie jar. Dan crawled over to the mass produced ceramic lid and removed it with ease, but alas. There were no cookies. All his dreams of cookies and milk sucked away into the emptiness of the jar.
He sat on the edge of counter, defeated. Just a month ago the jar had always been filled to the rim with fresh-baked cookies. Just a month ago he had been able to eat fresh baked cookies, now all his dreams were crushed, he had to wait until next month to eat more cookies.
A sob rippled through his chest and he collapsed to the floor in defeat. There. Was. No. Cookies.
